Hotpoint Washing Machine Error Codes

Find out what your Hotpoint washing machine error codes mean

Find out what your Hotpoint washing machine error codes mean, possible faults that relate to them and also what you can do to repair your Hotpoint washing machine.

Below is a list of common error codes you would usually encounter on a Hotpoint washing machine with a digital display.

F01 Hotpoint error code (electronic circuit board fault)

The washing machine is not operating correctly. Some or all of the functions are not selectable. PCB (printed circuit board) failure.

You can fix this fault by trying to unplug the machine from the mains for around 5 minutes and then reconnecting. If this does not solve the problem, the machine will most likely need a new control board.

F02 Hotpoint error code (motor circuit failure)

This fault will usually be accompanied by no drum movement or the machine will not start its cycle after the door has locked.

This fault can be repaired by either replacing the carbon brushes or replacing the motor entirely.

F03 Hotpoint error code (temperature sensor fault)

The washing machine is not heating the water or not drying the clothes.

This can be fixed by locating the faulty temperature sensor and replacing it accordingly.

F05 Hotpoint error code (Water not draining away)

The machine has detected that the water has not drained away from the drum within the allocated draining time. You would usually see a drum full of water with the Hotpoint F05 error code.

The first thing to check is if the waste pipe or the pump filter is blocked. If you can see no blockage present the problem may be with a faulty drain pump which will need to be replaced.

F06 Hotpoint error code (door lock fault)

The machine has detected that the door has not locked properly before the cycle or the door has not unlocked after the cycle has ended.

The most common reason for this error code is that the door interlock has broken. The lock will need to be fitted for a new one in order to rectify this fault. Sometimes this fault code can also be caused by a faulty control board.

F07 Hotpoint error code (PCB / heating circuit fault)

During the wash cycle, the PCB has detected that the heating element has become ‘open circuit’. Your clothes way not be drying or the drying cycle with this fault.

This would usually be repaired by replacing the dryer cycle heating element, a thermostat or in rare cases the printed circuit board.

F08 Hotpoint error code (heater fault)

The F08 error code indicates a problem with the heating element, most commonly the wash heater. You may notice that clothes are coming out of the wash dirtier than usual.

Replacing the wash heater is the first thing to do. This fault code can also be caused by faulty wiring going to the heating element.

F09 Hotpoint error code (software fault)

With the F09 fault code, you may see flashing lights on the display.

To repair a Hotpoint washing machine with a software problem, you can try replacing the printed circuit board.

F11 Hotpoint error code (pump fault)

Similar to the F05 fault, the F11 Hotpoint error code indicates a problem with the drain pump.

This can be due to a blockage in the machine or the waste pipe, or a problem with the drain pump itself. Try checking for any blockages or replacing the pump.

F12 Hotpoint error code (electronic control fault)

With the F12 error code, you may notice some strange behaviour from the machine, such as lights flashing or missing parts of the wash cycle.

The usual fix for the F12 fault would be to replace the control board.

F13 Hotpoint error code (dryer temperature sensing fault)

The F13 error code is specific to Hotpoint washer dryers. It relates to a temperature sensor failure within the heating cycle.

The fix for this fault is to locate the faulty sensor within the dryer cycle and then replace it with a new one.

F15 Hotpoint error code (heater control fault)

The F15 heater control fault error code means the machine is not heating water or pauses when it gets to the drying cycle depending on the model of the machine.

To repair this error code, you will need to locate the faulty heating assembly part such as a heating element or a temperature sensor and replace it.

F16 Hotpoint error code (drum lock position sensor fault)

Specific to top-loading machines only, the F16 fault means that the drum is stopping in the wrong position or is not locked in the correct position.

To repair this fault, you would need to check if the machine has anything causing an obstruction to the drum and remove it.

F18 Hotpoint error code (internal data error)

Alongside the F18 error code, you would usually experience a loss of display functions or lights flashing on the display.

To rectify the error, you can try to unplug the machine from the mains for at least 10 minutes. If the error persists, replacing the control board should repair the problem.
