Bosch Tumble Dryer Error Codes

Find out what your Bosch tumble dryer error code means, what it suggests and possible solutions to the problem.

View our complete list of Bosch dryer fault codes including possible faults that they are indicating, some common solutions and also some repair advice.

E:01, E:11, E:12 Bosch error code (dryer overheating)

These error codes are usually indicating that the dryer is overheating due to a blocked air exhaust path.

When a Bosch tumble dryer is overheating, it usually means that there is a blockage somewhere inside the unit, mostly in an area that blocks airflow. Firstly, make sure that the dryer is not in a tightly enclosed space with no airflow, secondly make sure that the vents at the front, rear and sides are not blocked by any obstructions such as a wall or any furniture. If the dryer is in an area with good airflow, the blockage will usually be inside the machine anywhere in between the drum filter vent, through the condenser unit, to the back of the air exhaust vents. Possible blockages include lint build up, items of clothing and even water build up.

E:03, E:13 Bosch error code (drying time exceeded)

Bosch dryer fault codes E:03 and E:13 mean that the machine has detected that the cycle is taking too long to complete, and the clothes are still wet.

Usually, this error code means that parts within the drying cycle have failed. Firstly, make sure that the dryer is getting hot during the cycle, if the machine is not producing heat, this will usually mean that the heating element has failed. If the machine is getting hot then the best thing to check next would be the condenser unit, which can become blocked with excess lint, meaning that the moisture is not being taken out of the air.

E:17 Bosch error code (temperature sensor)

The E:17 Bosch dryer fault code indicates that the lint screen temperature sensor has detected an error, usually with an overheating problem.

Make sure that the temperature sensor, located behind the fluff filter has not become covered with dry fluff. If the temperature sensor is clear, then this would mean that the machine is getting too hot while in use. Go through all the possible faults that are listed for E:01, E:11 and E:12.

E:18 Bosch error code (heater sensor)

This fault code indicates that the sensor on the heating element assembly (at the rear of the machine) has either detected that there is no heat or is overheating.

If the machine is producing no heat during a dry cycle, this would usually mean that the sensor itself is faulty or more commonly, the heating element has failed. If the machine is heating up but the error code is present, it may mean that the machine is getting too hot while in use.

E:20, E:21, E:22, E:23, E:25, E:26 Bosch error code (control module failure)

The fault codes E:20 through to E:26 show that the PCB (printed control board) or more commonly known as the control module, has become defective.

The only fix for these error codes would be to replace the faulty control board, although on rare occasions the control board can be diagnosed to find the faulty electronic part and then the part can be replaced accordingly.

The control module for Bosch tumble dryers can be extremely expensive to replace, meaning sometimes it can be more economical to replace the tumble dryer.
